The tour to support the bands first double album Marbles was the longest they had played for 7 years (since the This Strange Engine tour), in part due to the success of the pre-order campaign for the album.
The tour started in late April at the Civic Centre in Aylesbury (released as part of the original FRC) and finished 64 dates later in Canada in mid-October. The band decided to split these shows into 2 sets, the first being a full run through of the single CD version of the album (The Damage replaced Drilling Holes initially), and the other an hour of older material.
The tour stopped at Montpellier for the first time in Marillion’s history. As this was show 28 the Marbles set had bedded in (barring the Les Dawson intro to Marbles III), with great performances of the songs. According to h’s diary, the crowd was registered at 109db at points, and you can hear some of the band’s reactions being picked up on the mics during the set.
This resulted in a long show, of almost 2 and a half hours with the second set being extended with a rare appearance of The Space and Three Minute Boy introducing The Party, alongside great versions of Quartz, Between You and Me and Estonia.
The band were to return to this venue on the Somewhere Else tour.
This is an almost complete recording of the show with all talking included. There are a couple of digital errors at the beginning of Cover My Eyes which couldn’t be removed so please bear that in mind when listening.
Also includes full pdf artwork should you wish to add the discs to your own FRC physical CD collection.
