The Realities Of Touring
Hello all,

We often see messages from you asking why we do not play more cities and more countries, and we completely understand the feeling behind them. If it was practical and made financial sense to play EVERYWHERE, we would. The spirit is willing. The reality is more complicated.

Every show involves significant costs, planning, crew, freight, production, and travel. We have to balance ticket demand, venue size, routing, and overall tour viability. Some places have passionate supporters but not yet enough demand to cover the real-world costs of bringing the full show there. When that happens, playing the date would actually reduce what we can invest in future music and events.

We are sometimes asked why other bands manage to play those places. The answer is that every act works at a different scale, with different production levels, ticket prices, guarantees, and financial backing. Some travel with smaller crews, reduced technical setups, or outside support. Our shows are built a certain way, and we do not want to compromise the quality of your experience just to add more pins to the map.

This year alone includes a full German tour, UK tour, Dutch tour, and a French tour, plus two nights in Pompeii. In between all of that, we are also working hard to bring you a new album. We won’t compromise that either.

Looking ahead to 2027, we return to Port Zelande and then begin a wide run of two-night Marillion Weekends in cities around the world.  These dates are still being planned, negotiated and we’re yet to find out what’s feasible. So if we are not able to reach your country this year, there is a chance we may be able to visit next year.

Time is another key factor. There are only so many days in a year! Touring takes us away from writing, recording and our families. We have to remain alive (and sane), so schedules have to be sustainable as well as practical. We’re not as young as we used to be...

We keep detailed records of where fans are based, where tickets sell strongly, and where interest is growing. That directly shapes future routing. Fan support, streaming, and ticket-buying genuinely make a difference.

Please keep telling us where you want us to play. Even when we cannot make it happen right away, it all feeds into the planning, and we are always looking for realistic opportunities to reach new places.

See you soon - hopefully a little closer to your back-yard.  :o]
