MAGAZINE STATUS - SUMMER/AUTUMN 2024 - IN PREPERATION

SPRING 2024 FOREWORD

This is supposed to be a quiet year for Marillion. The only gigs of the year were in March on the Cruise to the Edge (exclusive review by Nicole Chase in these ‘ere pages), and the rest of the year was marked up as being for writing a new album.

Only Mr Trewavas was unable to attend due to the small matter of requiring a triple bypass operation, necessitating that nice Mr Beggs (from Kajagoogoo and the Steven Wilson band, and actually pretty much every band since about 1983) to deputise on the cruise. Fortunately, Pete is recovering well and should be fit enough to rejoin the rest of the band at Racket before too much longer, but he was kind enough to agree to be interviewed during his recuperation and you can read all about his musical career starting on page 5.

We have a behind-the-scenes report from Mr h’s February gig at the Auditorium Ennio Morricone (Sala Sinopoli) in Rome, which is definitely a name to have to live up to, but h was up to the task. Davide Costa from the Web Italy gives us the low-down.

Plus we bring you news of a new Egbert Derix release containing a few Marillion tracks arranged in his jazz-tinged orchestral style.

Finally, by the time you read this, Marillion will have announced the locations for the 2025 Weekends, something which is sure to generate more than a few ‘oohs and ahs’ from the fanbase: PZ, Montréal and Leicester (natch), then Paris, Padua, Girona, Oslo, and Berlin too. Wow!
